Last Night in Seattle

And now for a new feature…

Last night, right here in Seattle (or more specifically, Capital Hill), fun was had.

Allow me to reminisce…

Things started out well w/ dinner at the Elysian Brewpub for dinner and drinks with some fantastic people (Wisdom and V.Beckster included). The Elysian has been impressing me lately with a couple varieties of meat (steak strips or red snapper) served with sauces (bleu cheese or curry, respectively) over frites. OMG. So good. Very comforting. Go there. Eat. Get a pitcher of the Avatar Jasmine ale. You won’t be sorry.

I walked home to let the food settle and watch the M’s serve up another fantastic finish – this time in the form of Ibanez hitting a homer in the 11th inning, breaking a 5-5 tie. (See, baseball games are only supposed to be played NINE innings! YAR!!)

Then, aided by a 5 Hour Energy drink (I’m not much of an energy drink drinker, but this thing definitely helped the rest of the night occur) I made my way out to follow through on weeks old plans to finally see The Lights, who were playing down at the Comet Tavern. Also on the bill, Thee Emergency, which may have convinced my lady to come down after she finished work at midnight, though she really didn’t need any convincing. I’m no music crit, but it was a really great show. Especially The Lights – who didn’t give a shit that a lot of people left after Thee Emergency and their hair left (I (heart) their hair).

These guys were playing as part of the Noise For the Needy festival. NFTN is a non-profit that’s worthy of you going out to a show, hearing great bands, and getting drunk – all helping a fellow human get dinner and a shower. And of course, they have a blog. They’ve had some great bands (local and [inter]national play this year (it’s their second festival)… CSS, Okkervil River, The Cops, Common Market, blah blah blah – check it. There are shows tonight and tomorrow, so you too can go out, have fun, and help fund some non-profits that help people.
