The Society for the Advancement of Despair

Just in time for the holiday’s is Marrow: The Society for the Advancement of Despair.  Hell Yes!  Finally an invitation to actually acknowledge what is really going on with no fluffy attempts to change it.  As the expectations for “happiness” rise so does the keen awareness that it does not actually exist (at least not in a tangible way).  Happiness is the carrot dangling on the end of the stick we are all after.  Just in front of us, but seemingly unattainable.  Their motto is “Own your misery.”  Well said I must say.

I found out about this via Violet Blue who guest posted on Laughing Squid.  She brings more clarity:

Marrow is actually a local band, but morseo, an experience: for instance try taking their 13 Flavors of Fucked Up Quiz (”Which one are you? Take the quiz and find out.”). Watch their videos, where like in “Street Preacher” they literally take their “Happiness is Fiction” signs and fire-brimstone sermons to the streets — of Union Square. Also recommended are their holiday-gathering appropriate t-shirts with plain text reading “Happiness is Fiction” and “Everything will not be ok.”

For the record I got the song Sad Young Man after taking the quiz.

  • Nice one. I have stumbled and twittered this for my friends. Hope others find it as interesting as I did.
